About the Conference
Nordic Conference on PhD Supervision 2026
Monday 28 September – 30 September
In-person at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden
The 2026 Nordic CoPhs is hosted by the two universities in Uppsala, Swedish University for Agricultural Sciences and Uppsala University.
The conference is being held for the second time and welcomes researchers in doctoral supervision, supervisors, doctoral candidates, and others with an interest in doctoral supervision.
The Nordic CoPhS aims to deepen the understanding of doctoral supervision in the Nordic countries. It brings together researchers, doctoral candidates, supervisors, policymakers, educational developers, administrative staff, and others with an interest in doctoral supervision. The conference serves as a meeting place for the dissemination of research, as well as for the exchange of experiences and the exploration of opportunities for collaboration among Nordic universities.
At the previous conference in Karlstad, Sweden, there was great interest, and we hope to see just as many participants at the 2026 conference in Uppsala. Uppsala has a long and rich academic tradition. Since 1477, many distinguished scholars have worked here, leaving their mark on both science and supervision. Carl Linnaeus, one of the university’s most renowned figures, created a mentoring culture in which his students accompanied him on scientific expeditions and developed under his guidance. Anders Celsius, known for the temperature scale that bears his name, was another scholar deeply committed to guiding students in physics and astronomy. Today, both women and men at Uppsala University and the younger Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) supervise the next generation of researchers. Through such role models, Uppsala has become a symbol of learning, scholarship, and an ongoing dialogue between generations of scholars.
