FAO and SASI
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) aims to achieve food security for all, ensuring that people have consistent access to sufficient, nutritious food for active and healthy lives.
The FAO Strategic Framework 2022-2031 seeks to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems.
FAO Investment Centre and CIRAD contributed to advancing global food systems transformation through comprehensive Food Systems Assessments (FSA) supported by the European Union. In nearly 50 countries, FSA generated evidence-based insights that inform policy and investment decisions. These assessments contribute directly to the goals of the UN Food Systems Summit, which seeks to catalyze actions toward more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems.
Drawing on this experience, the European Union, FAO Investment Centre, and Agrinatura – a consortium of European research institutions – launched the Sustainable Agrifood Systems Intelligence (SASI) Initiative. Since 2022, SASI has contributed to improving the availability of knowledge on the institutions, policies and investment needed to accelerate the transition to sustainable agrifood systems. At country level, the Initiative supports Bhutan, Colombia and Sierra Leone in their efforts to improve the planning, design, investment and accountable delivery of interventions for sustainable and inclusive agrifood systems’ transformation.
