Processing of personal data for the SLU alumni network
Data controller
The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is the data controller for the processing of your personal data. The data protection officer at SLU can be reached via dataskydd@slu.se.
Purpose
The purpose of processing personal data is to develop and improve the core business at SLU by connecting with, and developing the relationship with, SLU's alumni. In order to communicate with members about for example news and events, and to customise the communication, the system stores educational information and current population registration address at SLU. The purpose of the alumni network is also to have contact with alumni in order to be able to give prospective and current students an insight into working life after their studies.
SLU will also process your personal data in the ways required for SLU to comply with the rules regarding public documents and government archives.
Categories of personal data and their source
The personal data that you can choose to provide when registering for the alumni network include, for example, contact information, your affiliation with SLU, completed studies at SLU, student union activities, your employment and areas of interest. This information is used to customise the communication with members of the alumni network and offer relevant information.
The information in the alumni network is only available to SLU staff who need it within the framework of their assignment. The information is not visible to other SLU employees, alumni or other external persons.
SLU retrieves information from the national study documentation system Ladok (study documentation information related to your studies at SLU and your current population registration information).
The information retrieved from Ladok is:
- program participation
- exchange studies
- total number of credits
- main place of study
- first and last study period at SLU
- degrees
Legal basis
The legal basis is consent. When you register in the alumni network, you agree that your personal data will be processed in accordance with the information below.
Since SLU's processing of your personal data is based on consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent. Contact slualumn@slu.se if you wish to withdraw your consent.
The principle of publicity
As a government agency, SLU is subject to the public policy. This means that all documents, including personal data, that are not work materials are public documents and may be disclosed to anyone who requests it. In some cases, however, information is subject to confidentiality and is therefore not disclosed.
Storage
Your personal data is stored internally at SLU and in our cloud-based contact database. The cloud-based system may result in data being transferred to third countries, but SLU takes all reasonable legal, organizational and technical measures required to achieve an adequate level of protection for your personal data.
Membership in the alumni network is valid until you choose to terminate it yourself. If you choose to terminate your membership, your information will be deleted from the alumni network database as soon as we have received information about your withdrawal. Weeding out is ongoing for members who are marked with protected identity or deceased in the population register. Weeding out is also done annually for members of the alumni network whose emails bounce on several occasions, and who we have not been able to contact via other communication channels.
Your rights
Under certain circumstances, you have the right by law to have your information deleted, corrected, restricted and to have access to the personal data that is being processed, as well as the right to object to the processing. To exercise your rights, contact dataskydd@slu.se.
