Registration is open for this year's Nordic Conference on Farmers' Health and Work Environment

News published:  26/06/2025

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first Nordic work environment conference focusing on agriculture, organised at SLU in Alnarp. The conference is organised every other year and circulates between the Nordic countries. This year's conference will be held 2-4 September in Ystad.

The theme of this year's conference Nordic Meeting on Agricultural Occupational Health 2025 is: ‘Joint Actions for Farmer Health and Mental Wellbeing’.

- ‘We want to emphasise the importance of different actors working together to improve and support farmers' health and wellbeing,’ says Peter Lundqvist at SLU Alnarp, who is responsible for the conference.

This is also the message that is the focus of the national work environment strategy 2025-2028, which is being implemented by Lantlyftet (www.lantlyftet.se) on behalf of the Swedish Board of Agriculture, with the Swedish Federation of Green Employers as the responsible organisation, in collaboration with a wide range of different stakeholders including SLU.

- The conference is organised by SLU on behalf of the Swedish Board of Agriculture, with financial support from the EU. ‘The Nordic perspective is in focus at the conference,’ says Peter Lundqvist.

International participation

The conference language is English, and international participants are also taking part from North America, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and a number of European countries outside the Nordic region.

The opening session of the conference will include presentations by representatives from the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure, the Swedish Federation of Green Employers, the Swedish Farmers' Union, the Swedish Work Environment Authority and SLU. The Nordic countries will also report on how they are working to improve health and safety in agriculture. There will also be a panel discussion with global perspectives and EU co-operation. Participants will also be able to listen to nearly 50 presentations in parallel sessions on topics such as mental health, occupational hazards, injury prevention, health and safety advice, quad bike safety, working safely with animals and machinery, and more.

Award-winning film

An award-winning film from Australia on mental health in agriculture will also be shown in the evening, and short study visits linked to agriculture and horticulture will be organised at the end of the conference.

Everyone with an interest in health, well-being and a safe working environment in the agricultural sector is welcome. For example, researchers, teachers, advisors, people working at authorities, occupational health services, primary care, agricultural organisations, companies and others.
