Annual meeting of the Centre for statistics at Alnarp
On the 16th and 17th of June twelve statisticians and mathematicians met at the Alnarp campus to discuss current matters in consultancy, organisation, teaching and research.
Among other topics, Johannes Forkman, statistician at the department of crop production ecology and Fältforsk, presented new approaches to examining postgraduate courses given remotely in the light of rapidly improving large language models (LLMs). Similarly, the impact of LLMs on the demand of consultancy services was discussed, as LLMs are very easily available, even though their outputs are still often incomplete or even wrong in their approach to statistical analysis.
Two seminars from the most recent employees within the statistics and mathematics groups were given:
Sonja Radosavljevic, senior lecturer in mathematics, division of applied statistics and mathematics, dept of energy and technology, Uppsala, talked about “Dynamical systems modeling in sustainability science” and Mohammad Ghorbani, senior lecturer in statistics, dept of biosystems and technology, Alnarp, presented his research on “Spatial Statistics and Forestry”.
Jan-Eric Englund concluded the day with some thoughts about his 33 years or half-life at SLU
