Successful "summit" of 2025
On Friday, October 15, around 85 students gathered in Alnarp for the third edition of the Forest Student Summit.
- It has become a nice, fulfilling tradition to have students from different forestry programmes meet once a year to share experiences, says Camilla Widmark, vice dean for undergraduate education at the Faculty of Forest Sciences, SLU, about the recently held Forest Student Summit in SLU:s southern campus in Alnarp.
The day focused on knowledge exchange, linkage and communication along with social activities. The Faculty of Forest Sciences was the host, in collaboration with student unions and students from all forestry bachelor’s programmes as well as some of the master’s equivalents.
The “summit” began with low-hanging clouds over Alnarp park and at times a light drizzle. Once in the forest, however, the clouds lifted somewhat. During the excursion in Snogeholm, various experiments with deciduous trees, recreational forests and a mix of different tree species for increased growth were presented and discussed.
The excursion was hosted by professors Emma Holmström and Urban Nilsson. After lunch at Alnarp's campus, program director Patrick Sherwood (Forest and Landscape) opened by talking about Alnarp campus. He also held much appreciated quiz with facts about SLU and Alnarp. One lucky winner received honors as well as a book.
Afterwards, the students shared their experiences of what it's like to study a master's program and then the four student unions presented their respective activities.
The evening ended with a traditional student dinner arranged by Ask - the student union in Alnarp. Concudes Widmark:
- The day provided opportunities for master students who studied together at the bachelor level to meet again. This is something many of the I spoke to appreciated very much.
