Each year, SLU awards three Medals for Distinguished Service:  the Great Medal, the Gold Medal and the Silver Medal. This year’s recipients are Ingrid Öborn, Ann Dolling and Maliheh Mehrshad.

SLU’s Great Medal for Distinguished Service awarded to Ingrid Öborn

Ingrid Öborn is one of the university’s most cited researchers. She has used her broad scientific expertise to strengthen SLU’s profile and reputation in her fields, both in Sweden and internationally.

She has shared her knowledge in ways that have benefited Swedish agriculture, where her research has been put into practice and strengthened ties between academia and industry. She has also contributed to the university’s development through her work on educational issues, pedagogy and academic leadership.

The Gold Medal for Distinguished Service awarded to Ann Dolling

Ann Dolling combines research in forest ecology and management with a strong commitment to equality.

As vice dean of the Faculty of Forest Sciences, she has worked to raise awareness of gender equality, equal treatment and societal norms among staff and students. Through her research in these areas, she has also helped promote equal rights and opportunities at SLU.

Through her collaborative approach and commitment, Ann Dolling has had an impact far beyond her own faculty, including through the Forest Sector’s Gender Equality Council. She has also helped increase understanding of the relationship between forest environments and human health.

The Silver Medal for Distinguished Service awarded to Maliheh Mehrshad

Maliheh Mehrshad has already made significant contributions at SLU as an early-career researcher.

In a short time, she has established herself as a researcher in microbial ecology, environmental metagenomics and bioinformatics, contributing new knowledge about the diversity, function and interactions of aquatic microorganisms.

Her research is important for water quality and water resources and has strengthened SLU’s position in Sweden and internationally. Through her scientific expertise, teaching and commitment to science communication, Maliheh Mehrshad contributes to inspiring the next generation of researchers at SLU and beyond.
