SLU film about beavers nominated for the Publishing Prize

News published:  02/09/2026

“The Beaver – Engineer and Vandal” offers a unique insight into the life of our largest rodent and dives into the latest research on it. The film, produced by SLU and the Swedish Forest Agency, has reached the final of the communications competition Publishing Prize.

– We made the film to bring together knowledge about the beaver and tell a wide audience about our foremost conservationist. That’s why it feels so exciting and honourable that the film has been recognised with a nomination,” says Frauke Ecke, senior lecturer at SLU and professor at the University of Helsinki.

The Publishing Prize is awarded for “commendable editorial and marketing communication” and is Sweden’s most comprehensive communication competition since its inception in 1990.

The film fosters an understanding of coexistence

The film “The Beaver – Engineer and Vandal” has been nominated in the film category and was produced by Bitzer Productions.

– It has been exciting to make a nature film focusing on both humans and beavers. It fosters a deeper understanding of how we can coexist and actually help one another. It’s great that the nomination jury appreciates the way we’ve told this story, says Sverker Johansson, film producer at Bitzer Productions.

The competition jury comprises professionals from fields including journalism, film and design. The winners will be announced on 3 November at a gala in Stockholm.
