How to use AI responsibly in research

What can current AI tools do and don’t do, and how are they already changing academic work? And what can a researcher do, working on a paper where it's specified that all text has to be written by the author, and no knowledge generation can be done by AI?

That was discussed during the first departmental AI seminar today, held by the invited speaker Dr. Ilya Shabanov, founder of Effortless Academic, where he teaches academic staff practical workflows for literature reviews, academic writing, and responsible use of AI. The initiator of these AI seminars is the department's researcher Rebeka Zsoldos.

Focus on searches and writing

This introductory session was designed for colleagues with all levels of AI-experience and focused on two practical areas where AI can be particularly useful – but also easily misused; in literature search and academic writing.

Along the seminar series the researchers discuss limitations, reliability, good and bad practices, and the mindset needed to work effectively with generative AI. Today researchers also could participate in a hands-on workshop.
