Tibebe Dejene Biasazin

I am a researcher at the Department of Plant Protection Biology at SLU Alnarp, with a PhD in Biology/Chemical Ecology.

My research focuses on insect chemical ecology, behavioural ecology, biological control and integrated pest management. I am particularly interested in how chemical signals mediate interactions among plants, herbivorous insects and their natural enemies, and how this knowledge can contribute to more sustainable pest management.

My work combines behavioural experiments, chemical-ecological methods and field studies, ranging from fruit fly and parasitoid chemical ecology to aphid–ant–predator interactions and semiochemical approaches to biological control.

My research explores how insects use chemical information in interactions with plants, other insects and their natural enemies. I am especially interested in semiochemicals, insect olfaction, biological control, aphid–ant–predator interactions, herbivore-induced plant volatiles, and the chemical ecology of fruit flies and parasitoids.

I use a combination of behavioural assays, field experiments, volatile collection, GC-MS, GC-EAD and electrophysiological methods to link insect sensory responses with behaviour and ecological function.

I teach in the Master's courses in Chemical Ecology and Agroecology at SLU. In chemical ecology, my teaching includes insect–predator interactions, insect sensory systems, olfactory evolution, and practical work on sensory physiology. I also contribute to seminars, student projects and supervision.
