Presentation
Growing up at a plant nursery gave me a deep appreciation for plants and their wondrous behaviour. Although I appreciate their horticultural beauty, what really triggers my fascination of plants is their enormous genomes, complex biochemistry, and pivotal roles in ecological systems and agriculture.
Research
My research is on pulse crops, especially pea and common bean, with the aim of identifying genes and markers linked to traits important in agriculture and nutrition. My research is within the fields of functional genomics and pre-breeding and the goal is to use the information to breed new cultivars of higher quality and greater stress tolerance.
In late 2024, I received an Early-Career Researcher grant from Formas, which supports my ongoing project "Expanding the functional genomics toolbox." In my project, I collaborate with researchers in Sweden, Denmark, and USA.
I am a work-package leader within a SLU Grogrund called "Pea⎯the key for future green protein", where I lead a WP on cooking quailty. Here, I and colleagues investigate which factors affect the cooking quality, for instance seed hardness.
Teaching
I do teaching in two courses at SLU: 'Plant Breeding and Plant Physiology' and 'Advanced Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources'. I am also co-supervising two PhD students in the Department of Plant Breeding and have supervised on four MSc projects (as main supervisor on two on them).
