Michael Finell

Master of Science in Engineering from Åbo Akademi University, specializing in Chemical Engineering with Industrial Management. I hold a PhD in Technology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and am an Associate Professor (Docent) in Technology with a specialization in Biomass Technology.

My areas of interest:

• Pulp and paper production
• Agro-fibres from reed canary grass and hemp
• Pellet production / solid biofuels
• Valorization of side streams from the forest industry
• Experimental design

I have led and been involved in a number of research projects in collaboration with other universities, research institutes, and companies, both nationally and internationally. The main focus has been on biofuel applications, particularly solid biofuels such as pellets, with close collaboration with industry.

I have also held several administrative roles, including project manager for the establishment of a new department within the Faculty of Science, and subsequently Head of the Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology from 2013 to 2022.
