Research
In my PhD project I study the sorption properties of nanoparticles. I am specifically interested in imogolite type nanoparticles (ITN). ITN are important sorbents for several oxyanions such as arseante, molybdate, and phosphate and have been found in appreciable amounts in Swedish forest soils. Despite their occerrence and high reactivity, we know far less about their surface properties than we do of other common natural nanoparticles (e.g., Fe oxides). The main goal of my PhD project is to investigate the sorption properties, surface chemistry, and biogeochemical significance of ITN in forest soil. To do this I am using a wide range of methods such as TEM-EDX, FTIR, ICP-OES, potentiometric titrations, EXAFS, batch tests and surface complexation modelling.
