Anders Glimskär is a plant ecologist, unit leader and project leader, with a special interest in habitats and biodiversity of agricultural landscapes and wetlands. He is also assistant coordinator of the environmental monitoring and assessment programme Agricultural landscapes, at the NJ faculty.

Presentation

I work mainly with environmental monitoring and assessment, with focus on variable content, sampling design and evaluation of landscape quality and structure.  The main purpose is to describe the status I mainly work as a project leader for assignments within environmental monitoring and assessment, but also with how monitoring data can be applied and combined with other research activities. I am especially interested in measurement methods, environmental indicators and the impact of local site conditions on environmental quality and ecological interactions. My ambition is to contribute to better and more widely applicable data on habitat quality and changes over time, for environments and habitats where such data until now have been missing or insufficient, but also to better understand causal relations for long- and short-term changes.

Research

My main research interest is ecology of plants and vegetation in the agricultural landscape, especially the influence of grazing management and other environmental factors on species diversity and performance of plant species in the landscape. I am also interested  in methods for measuring effects of environmental condition, landscape structure and human activities on natural values.

Environment analysis

I am project leader for a number of short- and long-term assignments within environmental monitoring and assessment, for the development, maintenance and evaluation of national and regional monitoring programmes. The activities mainly relate to terrestrial biotopes within agricultural landscapes, but also wetlands and ecotones. The main purpose is to provide information for evaluation of environmental quality objectives, reporting for EU directives and agri-environmental payment schemes, but also to link such information to the specific effects of land use, restoration measures and management methods.

Teaching

I am course leader for two courses, Urban ecology and plant knowledge, and Biotope analysis and construction, within the landscape engineer programme.
