PhD student researcher focusing on innovation and system transitions in forestry practices using fast-growing broadleaf species.

Presentation

Derek has a background in politics and sustainable development with an interest in the politics and process of sustainability transitions. His ambition is to provide policy-relevant research that will contribute to societal transitions towards sustainability.

Derek is part of Trees For Me, a Centre of Excellence focused on fast-growing broadleaf trees, within the societal transitions work package.

Teaching

Derek teaches primarily in National and International Forest Policy within SLU's advanced-level Euroforester program. He has contributed to the course Environmental Communication and Discourses within SLU's new undergraduate program, Forest and Landscape. He is a frequent guest within the Master's of Sustainable Development joint program at Uppsala University and SLU, often with a focus on futures studies methods, systems thinking, and transitions dynamics.
