PhD Candidate focused on the variety of poplar clones and their adaptation to different conditions.

Presentation

After graduating (degrees of Bachelor and Master of Science in Forestry),
I started my PhD at SLU in Alnarp, Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre,
in April 2023.

I am working with one of the fastest broadleaf species adapted to Swedish conditions - Populus. I am testing several poplar clones under different conditions.

My research is part of the project called Trees that grow better founded by The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF).

Research

My doctoral project is titled Poplar plantation in a changing climate

The aims of my studies are to:

  • Identify key parameters influencing the fast growth of poplar clones under field conditions:
How does vegetation control affect the performance of different genotypes?

  • Develop methodology for identifying clones adapted for different climate conditions:
Can the timing of bud set and bud burst be used for poplar clones selection?

  • Establish a common garden experiment for the determination of climate adaptation in the present and future climate:
Which genotypes grow well on certain latitudes?

  • Optimize methods for more efficient poplar clone selection using a high-throughput phenotyping platform:
Is there a use of advanced phenotyping facility for scoring poplars?
