Presentation
I am a PhD student in the Soil Biology Group, interested in studying the distribution, ecology and impact of earthworms in boreal forest soils.
Research
My research project aims to unravel, whether earthworms are invasive in Scandinavian boreal forests. In essence, invasiveness would require from earthworms the ability to colonize yet pristine soils, and a remarkable influence on the occupied ecosystem. To investigate whether there are signs of ongoing earthworm colonization, I track earthworm communities in space and time using molecular techniques and archived soil samples of the Swedish Forest Soil Inventory. Furthermore, to evaluate impacts of earthworms on yet uncolonized forest soils, a mesocosm experiment was established. In this experiment I am investigating how carbon and nitrogen cycling, as well as the fungal communities respond to controlled earthworm introduction.
