Presentation

Understanding and addressing societal environmental and sustainability challenges are at the core of my research and teaching. Equally important is fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. My research lies at the intersection of landscape governance, planning and impact assessment, with a particular focus on the implementation of new policies and governance modes, as well as the roles, strategies, and influence of various societal actors in planning and decision-making processes.

I have a particular empirical interest in the design and performance of strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA).

I primarily use qualitative methods, including interviews and workshops. I also engage in leading collaborations across disciplines and organisations to promote knowledge exchange, creativity, and innovation.

My research outcomes span the development of new analytical perspectives and empirical insights, individual and organisational learning, business development, and contributions to legislation and policy.

I received my doctorate from the SLU in 2016. My PhD thesis focused on how practitioners’ perceived and actual space for action influence on the inclusion of new perspectives in EA, namely social and environmental health and wellbeing, and in particular on the importance of the role of consultants for improving EA quality

I have over 15 years of experience as EA consultant. More recently, I worked part-time as a senior specialist at the consulting firm Tyréns AB where I was engaged for process and methodology advice on EA projects, coordinator for the internal EA quality development program and mentor for young EA professionals.

Cooperation

I have long experience of collaboration and other interactions with EA and planning professionals, including municipalities and national and regional planning, environment and health, as well as consultants and developers within the private sector.

For me, collaboration is central, both as a research focus and as a methodological approach. My collaboration activities include joint projects, workshops, conferences and seminars, resulting in research publications as well as the opportunity to instigate and frame debates on EA, develop new services within EA consultancy, new frameworks for assessing impact, public authorities’ guidelines and teaching material.

Co-initiator of Agora - an arena for developing knowledge and learning for environmental assessment. A strategic initiative together with Mittuniversitetet.

Since 2017, organinsing 'MKB-dagen', the annual national environmental assessment conference, in collaboration with national authorities.
