Presentation
I have a background in environmental engineering with a focus on sanitation and wastewater management. My PhD studied planning and decision-making processes for sanitation systems, primarily in West Africa. Since then, I have continued research related to sanitation and planning, with an increasing focus on resource recovery. I work with concepts of sustainability, life-cycle thinking, participation, serious gaming and decision-support frameworks to better understand and shape planning processes.
Research
My current research projects focus on possibilities for transitioning to sanitation resource recovery systems. With my colleagues, we are exploring potentials for innovative source-separating wastewater systems to be scaled up. We perform sustainability assessments and explore transition pathways using methods such as life cycle assessment, system dynamic modeling, transition studies and serious gaming.
Research projects
- P2GreeN: Closing the gap between fork and farm for circular nutrient flows
- GREW: Greywater for REuse: Where, why and how?
- RECLAIM - a serious sanitation game
- Fertilizers in uncertain times
Teaching
I am the Study Director for the two Civil Engineering programs shared between SLU and Uppsala University - Environmental & Water Technology and Energy Systems.
I am also responsible for the following courses:
- On-site wastewater systems and resource recovery (in Swedish) - 5hp
- Selection of water and sanitation systems (in Swedish) - 10 hp
