Presentation
I completed my BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at the University of Nottingham in 2022. Following this, I went on to achieve a MSc in Bioinformatics from the University of Nottingham in 2024. During the degree program my academic focus shifted towards plant evolutionary biology.
Shortly after finishing my MSc, I completed a 6 month internship program in the Yant Lab (at Univerzita Karlova) where we worked on developing chromosome-scale genome assemblies for Cardamine amara.
The cumulation of all these experiences was pursuing a doctoral degree at SLU, again within the Yant Lab, where the overarching aim of the project is to uncover how autopolyploid genomes stabilize following whole genome duplication.
Research
Prior to the internship experience in Prague, my research was centered around prokaryotes. At the bachelors level I investigated outer membrane protein interactions, and later at the masters level I focused on how presence-absence profiles between antibiotic resistance gene families and other genes in the genome influence resistant phenotypes.
My PhD research will focus on understanding how the evolution of pathways involved in core genomic processes shapes genome stability and adaptation following whole genome duplication (WGD). We will be characterising genome restructuring and fractionation patterns following WGD, linking structural variants to adaptive potential in natural autopolyploid systems, and applying these findings in different genera (Arabidopsis, Cochlearia, Mimulus) to domesticated crops.
