2012: Plant Breeding Reviews dedicated him its vol. 36
2017: Olam Prize for Innovation in Food Security for SLU/ICARDA project Adapting durum wheat varieties to the Senegal Basin in which he was PI
2022: Bertebos Prize 2022 for mastering the use of new molecular scientific methods, and to be a driving force in the breeding of crops of great importance for food supply in Africa, America and Europe

Teaching

I have taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, provided pedagogic counseling and supervision, as well as participated in the examination of students at all levels.  I trained students interested in Plant Science who pursued a MSc or PhD degree especially in plant genetic resources.  While holding a Nordic professorship in plant genetic resources at KVL in Copenhagen, I participated in joint Nordic activities within agrobiodiversity and provided support for students and research staff of all the Nordic agricultural universities.

Educational credentials

Since 1993 provided degree training for 29 PhD (2 KULeuven [Belgium], 3 KVL/KU [Denmark], 2 Mohammed V Univ. [Morocco], 4 AAU [Ethiopia], 16 SLU [Sweden], 1 UNIPORT & 1 UNN [Nigeria]), 11 MSc (4 KULeuven, 4 KVL/KU, 1 Univ. Bari & 2 SLU), and 6 BSc (3 KVL/KU, 1 RSUST [Nigeria], 1 SLU & 1 UNIPORT) students, and scientific advisor of 10 postdoctoral fellows, 2 junior experts and 1 research scholar.
