Arifin Sandhi

I am an environmental scientist with a solid background in ecotoxicology and plant physiology. My research broadly aims to assess the consequences of geogenic and anthropogenic activities on heavy metal pollution in soil and water systems, as well as to develop sustainable management strategies. Working across both laboratory and field scales, I focus on heavy metal accumulation and mobilization across different trophic levels. I am particularly interested in developing innovative phytoremediation techniques that utilize diverse plant species to effectively reduce environmental heavy metal concentrations.

My research investigates how heavy metal concentrations in soil, water, sediment, and plants impact ecosystems and human health. Currently, my work focuses on the application of biochar to reduce heavy metal uptake in soils and plants, with a specific emphasis on urban gardening practices in contaminated areas.

Driven by a broad interest in ecological solutions, I have also worked extensively on: Stormwater management, Aquatic ecotoxicology, climate change, Nature-based solutions, including the development of eco-friendly systems like macrophyte-based floating wetlands and constructed wetlands to mitigate aquatic pollution.

International Collaboration

I highly value global research partnerships and have been actively involved in several research projects in Bangladesh and India.
