Researcher in the Soil Chemistry group at the Department of Soil and Environment, at Campus Uppsala (Ultuna). Expert in metal speciation in contaminated soil and metal binding to biochar. Specialist on X-ray spectroscopy and is representing SLU in the URG-group for the Swedish synchrotron MAXIV.

Presentation

I am interested in speciation of metal(loid)s in the environment, both in soil and in water, but also in municipal waste incineration ashes and to biochar. I am specialized in the X-ray spectroscopy techniques bulk-XAS, µ-XRF, and µ-XAS, as well as in geochemical modelling. I am also interested in analytical chemistry. Metal(loid)s that I have studied are aluminium, iron, lead, copper, zinc, arsenic, antimony, chromium, silicon, and molybdenum.

Research

Biochar as a metal trap in soil – mechanisms, modelling and ageing. VR-project (Swedish Research Council). 4 year starting grant for young researchers, project leader. 2021-2025

In the above project I was involved in a sister project: BALANCE - Treatment of low-contaminated soil with biochar produced from organic waste for sustainable resource use and circular economy. Financed by RE:SOURCE. Project leader Anja Enell, SGI.

Development and testing of zero valent iron for in-situ treatment of arsenic contaminated anaerobic groundwater. Financed by TUFFO. Project leader Dan B. Kleja, SLU/SGI.

Geochemical modelling of potential acidification effects on surface water caused by forest biomass extraction (with Stefan Löfgren, Jon Petter Gustafsson, Bengt Olsson, (SLU) and Therese Zetterberg, IVL). Financed by the Swedish Energy Agency. Finished.

Zinc and copper speciation in bottom ash (with project leader Charlotta Tiberg, SGI) Financed by ‘‘Askprogrammet”, managed by Energiforsk (projects 2017-013 and 2018-016) and Avfall Sverige (projects F210 and F216). Finished.
