Julia Schmucker

I am a postdoc with a particular interest in rare and unusual tree species: how they grow, how they can be managed, and the role they can play in both rural and urban environments.

In my research I am mainly focussing on silviculture of mixed broad-leaved forests. My current project focusses on the establishment and growth of oak forests mixed with drought tolerant broad-leaved species like European hornbeam, wild service tree and field maple.

I am analysing growth dynamics, competition and mortality in these forests and develop recommendations for their management.
