Research
Endometritis is one of the main causes of subfertility in mares. Uterine health is crucial for successful pregnancy, whether following natural breeding, artificial insemination, or embryo transfer using in vivo or in vitro produced embryos. Yet, the optimal diagnostic and treatment protocols for endometritis remain unclear!
Multifactorial and often subclinical condition, it may begin as a normal physiological response to breeding but, if inflammation persists, develop into a pathological process. As a result, endometritis continues to steal mares' fertility in breeding programmes worldwide.
Nordic Saga of Mare Endometritis - my doctoral project touching on several aspects of endometritis in mares, particularily relevant in the nordic setting:
- Vulvoplasty – a beneficial intervention or an ineffective mutilation? Vaginal microbiome analysis.
- Caslick's vulvoplasty - this is how we do it, questionnaire among nordic veterinary practitioners.
- Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) in Icelandic Horse population in Sweden.
- Current diagnostic and treatment practices for equine endometritis in Sweden: a questionnaire study.
- Non-antibiotic treatment of endometritis - what do we know synthesis for practitioners. Literature review study.
Although my doctoral project has been designed with questions urging an answer in the nordic setting, we believe that it will bring valuable answers in the large endometritis puzzle challenge.
Other projects:
- Anti-Mullerian hormone in mare's and stallion's reproduction
- Research fellow at IVF lab, SLU, bovine in vitro embryo production
Teaching
- Co-supervisor of veterinary students in their master thesis projects related to equine reproduction.
- Lecturer in mare's gynaecology (Veterinary Medicine) and Biology of the horse (Equine Science).
Trying to spread my passion by giving students confidence to think logically, ask questions and participate in the discussion, GET CURIOUS. With respect to others, and, most importantly, to horses.
