Jörgen Wallerman
Presentation
Wallerman is primarily engaged in large-scale remote sensing-based mapping of forest resources, nationally but also in a number of European level projects. As project manager for SLU's part in the government assignment "Geodata Skog", he is part of the department's ongoing production of the Swedish open National Forest Attribute Maps and the project group's committed further development of new maps as a further basis for society's decision support. Furthermore, he also participates in several European networks and projects that shape the effective and harmonised monitoring systems of the future for forests and climate benefits.
Research
The research is focused on developing mapping methods for new forest attributes, but also more efficient methods to combine new remote sensing data sources with reference measurements from the Swedish National Forest Inventory to objective mappings of the forest. Today, mainly time series of data are explored – a resource providing information about growth, damage and forest management activities for entire landscapes.
