Tarja Wiegel

I have been a PhD student since autumn 2023 in the Organic Chemistry group at the Department of Molecular Sciences. I previously studied a bachelor programme in Chemistry and a master program in Chemistry, with a specialisation in Analytical Chemistry, at Uppsala University.

In my research, I work with metabolomics, which can be described as the study of small molecules, such as amino acids, in biological samples. By using both NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, we investigate biological systems both quantitatively and qualitatively. My focus is primarily on less well-studied systems, and I am currently working with faba beans. I also work with method development, with the aim of further developing analytical methods for complex biological samples.

I teach laboratory courses that are part of Fundamentals Chemistry I and II (KE0077 and KE0063) as well as Natural Products Chemistry (KE0076).
