Less mycotoxins in organic oat

Published: 30 November 2012

The companies “Lantmännen” and Varaslättens Lagerhus” examines their grain thoroughly. They have noted that organic oat generally have half as high levels of the toxin deoxynivalenol (DON) as conventionally grown oat.

In an article on www.ekoweb.nu, Göran Karlsson at Lantmännen tells that a large number of analyzes from many areas in Sweden and Finland showed dramatically lower levels of DON in oat.

DON is an important research issue
Göran Karlsson also believes that research on DON can be one of the most important issues to come, because DON has also been found in spring wheat and barley this year.
