SLU Grogrund joins forces from academia, society and the business sector to develop competence within plant breeding. We want to secure access to resilient crop varieties adapted to Swedish growing conditions, and contribute to a sustainable and competitive agricultural and horticultural production throughout Sweden.

Research on crops and development of plant breeding methods

We work with both large-scale cultivated crops and niche crops in our projects. Cereals, forages foanimal feed, oil crops, legumes, potato, sugar beet, vegetables, fruits and berries are included in the project portfolio. Learn more about our innovative projects.

Research school

The purpose of our research school is to promote research education within plant breeding and food related disciplines. We organize training activities and gather relevant information.

SLU Grogrund - an assignment from the Swedish government

SLU Grogrund is a collaborative program aimed at ensuring access to new plant varieties adapted to Swedish growing conditions. We contribute to a growing, sustainable, and competitive food production in Sweden. This is achieved through unique and close collaboration between academia, industry, and society.

Everyone is welcome to submit a proposal that is relevant to SLU Grogrund’s assignment, vision, and objectives. The criteria established by SLU Grogrund include, among other things, that projects must be carried out in collaboration between society, industry, and universities.
