One-third of SLU’s scientific articles are co-published with researchers based in low—and middle-income countries. Of these articles, 19 per cent are highly cited, which is higher than the average for SLU (15 per cent) and the world (10 per cent).

SLU is a global leader in research across several key areas. For example, in the Times Higher Education Young University Ranking, SLU is placed 49th in the world and is Sweden's best "young university". SLU has been awarded five stars out of five possible by STINT, the Foundation for the Internationalisation of Higher Education and Research.
