National environmental monitoring of pesticides (plant protection products)

The Swedish national environmental monitoring program of pesticides is funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The aim of the program is to track long-term environmental trends in agricultural areas due to the use of plant protection products.

  • Plant protection products are pesticides primarily used to protect plants and plant products in agriculture, forestry and horticulture.

Description of the monitoring program

The pesticide monitoring started in 2002 in four catchments and two rivers in agricultural areas. Surface water, ground water, sediment, air and precipitation is sampled.
