Master thesis within the project: The feed of the future for fish, pigs, poultry and laying hens

Page reviewed:  09/02/2026

In the project the Feed of the future for fish, pigs, poultry and laying hens, stakeholders from across the entire food value chain collaborate to develop and evaluate new feed ingredients that improve resource efficiency within the food industry and reduce the environmental impact of animal feed. The ambition is to develop new feed formulations and test them at pilot scale.

As a next step in the project, a study will be conducted at The Swedish Livestock research centre where laying hens will be fed a diet based on mycoprotein grown on residual streams. The feeding trial will be carried out during March–May 2026. There is an opportunity for a master student to participate in the project as part of the degree project. The work with the practical data collection will take place during the spring, and the writing and completion of the thesis during the summer/autumn semester.

The degree project will provide the participating student with experience in conducting a feeding trial with laying hens, as well as training in scientific methodology, literature review, and scientific report writing.
