About IOBC and ICOC

Page reviewed:  13/02/2026

The International Organisation for Biological Control (IOBC) promotes biological control in integrated pest management. Its working group ICOC focuses on pest and disease control in oilseed crops such as rapeseed, sunflower, linseed, camelina and hemp.

IOBC-WPRS

IOBC-WPRS is one of six Regional Sections of IOBC. Members are individual scientists, governmental, scientific or commercial organisations from 24 countries of Europe, Mediterranean region and the Middle East.

Major activities include development and standardisation of testing methods for effects of pesticides on beneficial species, pest and disease damage assessment, modelling in relation to pest and disease management, and the practical implementation of biological and integrated controls for pests and diseases of particular crops. IOBC-WPRS elaborates guidelines for integrated production of agricultural crops, develops and standardises methods of testing effects of pesticides on beneficial species.

IOBC-WPRS offers presentation platforms (workshops, symposia, proceedings, publications) to scientists involved in research to ameliorate agricultural crop production using methods and strategies in agreement with overall goal of IOBC.

The work is organised through Working Groups (WG) with responsibility for a precise programme and the evaluation of the results obtained. Its aim is to speed up the acquisition of results through co-ordinated international activities and to avoid duplication of research effort. IOBC WPRS also has Commissions: smaller groups focused on a specific subject, consisting of experts appointed by the Council of WPRS. A commission may, for example, define a long-term programme for the development of biological and integrated control strategies or it may establish and maintain an adequate service requested by the WPRS members.

Integrated Control in Oilseed Crops (ICOC)

The working group Integrated Control in Oilseed Crops (ICOC) focuses on challenges and opportunities to control pests and diseases in rapeseed, sunflower, linseed, camelina and hemp seed. The group organises biannual workshops do discuss recent advances in this field.

The convenor of ICOC is Nazanin ZAMANI-NOOR. The activities of the group are organised within 2 subgroups: Sub-Group Pathology. Convenor: Nazanin ZAMANI-NOOR and Sub-Group Entomology. Convenor: Ivan JURAN

Membership

Membership in IOBC gives individuals and organisations the opportunity to participate in biological control activities beyond their specific jobs and workplaces, to step outside their bureaucracies, and to contribute to the promotion of biological control worldwide.
