Researching concepts that can strengthen ecosystem services
A sustainable and resilient Agri-food system need society to flourish in multiple ways.
This research area is about realizing the need for several parallel development paths to be supported simultaneously. For example, the development of new counselling concepts that aim to strengthen ecosystem services and nature-based solutions in the agricultural landscape, as well as diversity in the forest. Through our research and support, we contribute to developing expertise in new areas of knowledge, to fill the gaps where there is a lack of skilled actors to meet new needs.
This also connects to emergency and food supply issues. Strengthened preparedness and sustainable food supplies needs increased diversity and resilience. Sustainable land and water use, together with new, innovative food systems, needs to be developed. These change processes will require, ability and expertise.
For actors to overcome bottlenecks and connect across the policy system, to build preparedness based on local and regional resources requires social innovations that engage both farmers and other actors within the food system.
SLU Competence Centre for Advisory Services can contribute by initiating, designing and researching collaborative processes that lead to better preparedness and strengthened supply chains.
