About us

The Department of Plant Biology is located in BioCenter, a modern research facility on the Ultuna campus in Uppsala. We have been an integral part of SLU since its inception and relocated to its new premises at the Uppsala BioCenter in 2011.

It is home to 18 research groups and more than 70 researchers, postdocs, and PhD students who conduct both fundamental and applied research on plants and their interactions with the environment. Our aim is to make this knowledge accessible to breeders and conservation geneticists, supporting its application in agriculture and forestry.

The department is also committed to providing world-class education in plant sciences, from undergraduate to PhD level.

Our researchers and educators benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation and are supported by a dedicated team of administrative and technical staff.

Note: until 2014 we were the Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics

Where to find us

SLU is located south of Uppsala city center. Go south on Dag Hammarskjölds väg, turn left on Veterinärvägen and then right on Ulls väg. The visiting address is BioCentrum, Undvisningsplan 5. Biocentrum (a large gray brick building) is located on the left side. The entrance is on the short side farthest from the road. From Uppsala Central Station you can go to Campus Ultuna, Ulls väg, for example by bus number 4, 100, 101 and 188. More information about tickets and bus times can be found at Upplands lokaltrafik.
