Genetic laboratory

One of our fields of expertise is genetic analysis of low-quality samples, such droppings, urine, saliva.

Thanks to the Grimsö DNA lab, we have a more or less complete family tree for the Scandinavian wolf population, something virtually unique for wild mammals. Researchers will also be able to analyse droppings to ascertain what different predators have eaten.

Over the years we have worked on samples from wolverine, racoon dog, lynx, fallow deer, boar, crane, wolf and roe deer.

Equipment

The Grimsö genetic laboratory can offer genotyping with SNP markers, PCR and most types of DNA/RNA extraction.

  • 5 PCR machines
  • Fluidigm EP1
  • Nanodrop
  • Quant-iT
  • TissueLyser
  • UV-huv
  • Crosslinker

We also have all the standard equipment for extraction, etc.

Using the lab

Researchers are welcome to use the Grimsö genetic laboratory whenever there are openings.

The laboratory is unable to provide extensive staff resources. We cannot analyse samples for members of the public; we only work with our principals.

Funding

The Grimsö genetic laboratory opened in 2010. The construction was largely financed by the Marie-Claire Cronstedt Foundation and the Olle Engkvist Foundation. Parts of the equipment were financed by funds from Bergslagens Sparbank.
