Animal husbandry in Sweden as well as in the world at large has fundamentally changed over time – towards a high degree of specialization and intensification. At the department, we evaluate and compare resource use and environmental effects of different animal production systems and how the negative environmental impact of animal husbandry can be reduced, as well as evaluate scenarios for future sustainable systems. In our research, we also analyze how production systems affect different ecosystem services and biodiversity and how these aspects can be integrated into environmental system analysis tools.
