Transports and logistics

Freight transport is one of the most challenging sectors to transition from fossil fuel dependency to renewable energy sources. Transport in all parts of the food chain is a key activity that always needs to be catered for in society. Transport related to agriculture and food accounts for approximately 10% of freight volume and 15–20% of road transport work in Sweden, and in cities up to 40% of goods deliveries are food-related. While electrification and renewable fuels have received increasing focus in research and implementation, the opportunities to reduce transport demand need to receive greater attention. By integrating large-scale and small-scale logistics systems, more efficient, flexible and resilient logistics solutions can be achieved, also in rural and urban environments.
