Wood Science & Technology Laboratory

Page reviewed:  12/11/2025

Infrastructure for basic and applied research on wood and fibre (ultra)structure, properties and advanced wood and fibre biomaterials and products.

Our research infrastructure of crucial importance includes facilities for wood and fibre anatomical characterisations and image analysis, automated fibre and particle size analysis, mechanical testing, wood drying and climatization, treatments units for impregnation and wood modification, wood-based panels pilot facility, chemical laboratory with ICP-OES, HPLC, TGA, DSC, rheology and spectroscopy facilities, and 4 test fields for durability testing in Sweden and the tropics.

The unit has excellent facilities for light, florescence and electron microscopy (TEM/SEM) including advanced facilities for preparation of biological samples. We research wood durability, have our own PCR facility and an extensive mushroom herbarium.

The laboratory is accredited by SWEDAC according to the ISO 17 025 standard and performs testing and development of wood preservatives and wood and fibre modification, as well as chemical and mechanical testing of biomaterials.

The above-mentioned services are available for research (basic/applied) and product development, industrial collaboration and undergraduate and graduate education.
