Research at the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology

Page reviewed:  12/06/2025

The research at the department is focusing on physiological, biochemical and molecular aspects of plant adaptation to their environment in a broad sense.

The main part of the research at the department is motivated from purely basic scientific questions although applied projects are given some priority. An important direction of our research is in forest biotechnology and forest genetics.

We are studying for example tolerance to stress like freezing temperatures at several organizational levels in the plant and work on basic cellular biological questions like degradational pathways, cellular trafficking and energy metabolism.

We belong to the Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) and work closely together with the Department of Plant Physiology at Umeå University.
