Forest Inventory and Sampling
The subject area encompasses field-based forest and landscape inventory, as well as the development of cost-effective inventory systems that utilize multiple data sources.
Forest inventory is one of several applications within sampling and is important for a wide range of practical forestry and environmental applications.
The research area covers general sampling theory, field-based forest and landscape inventory, as well as related modeling and the development of inventory systems that integrate multiple data sources. Today, forest inventory includes a variety of aspects relevant to sustainable forestry, ranging from information on trees and stands to data on biodiversity and greenhouse gas balances. Within sampling, general methods are developed that also underpin important parts of the forest inventory field. The subject area contributes knowledge for numerous applications in practical forestry and continuous environmental monitoring.
