The GIS support service aims to assist and enhance the use of spatial data and geographic information systems/technology (GIS/GIT) within SLU.

GIS-support:

  • Provides user support via the web (GIS-support wiki), email gis-support@slu.se, phone, and short consultations.
  • Supplies GIS software, licenses and self-study courses,
    Promotes the use of and increases knowledge about open-source software (bl.a. QGIS),
  • Provides basic geographic information and ensures it is continuously updated.
  • Distributes geodata from Lantmäteriet, Statistics Sweden (SCB), the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU), and the Swedish Maritime Administration via the GET download service to all universities and colleges in the country (log in with your regular SLU credentials).
  • Shares information about the support through user meetings, the internal website, and the email list Gisforum (check here how to subscribe),
  • Supports environmental analysis and research activities regarding map services, database and application development with a GIS focus.
  • Supports projects/programs affected by the EU-directive INSPIRE or those wishing to use the national Geodata Portal to publish metadata, map services, and distribute data.
  • Ensures adequate security, availability, and performance for the storage and distribution of geographic data.
  • Conducts environmental scanning and analysis within the field.
