"I thought I would become a banker" – Anton's unexpected career change to forestry and landscape planning

A broad industry with endless opportunities

Anton describes the forestry industry as a world full of possibilities.

"I had no idea there were so many different paths within forestry. It’s a broad industry with endless career opportunities, which allows me to shape my future just the way I want," he says.

His dream job is to work with innovation and sustainable processes within the forestry industry.

"I want to make a positive impact on the environment while driving innovation. Having a job with staff responsibility is also something I aim for in the future," Anton shares.

An international program with unique perspectives

One of the things Anton appreciates most about the Forest and Landscape program is its international character.

"It’s fantastic to study alongside people from all over the world. Everyone has a different view on the forest and how it should be managed. We also get to learn from international researchers and lecturers," he says.

He also highlights the program’s breadth, which combines forestry and landscape design.

"It gives us a unique understanding of the forest and how it can be integrated with urban environments. It’s truly a program that prepares us for the future," Anton says.

Lessons from field exercises and climate perspectives

Anton appreciates the practical elements of the education, ranging from analyzing soil samples in the field to using labs and computer rooms to process and present results.

"We get a holistic view that combines practical and theoretical knowledge. This makes us ready to face real-world challenges in the forestry industry," he says.

The program places a strong emphasis on climate adaptation, and Anton feels well-prepared to contribute to a sustainable future.

"We learn to adapt forestry based on both ecological and societal factors. It’s everything from tree species selection to geographical and structural conditions. It’s a complex but incredibly important part of the education," he explains.

A meaningful choice

For Anton, it’s a special feeling to study something he truly cares about.

"It’s rewarding to combine my passion for the environment and nature with my studies and future work. The forestry industry is so broad that there’s always room for variety and new challenges," Anton says.

With his experiences from UN roleplays and a burning passion for the climate, Anton looks forward to a future where he can make a difference – both for the forests and for the world.
