Who are you?

I’m Markos Managos, with a background in veterinary medicine and animal science. My PhD focused on dairy rations and how feeding practices affect greenhouse gas emissions and land use in high-producing Swedish dairy production. I’m interested in practical ways to make dairy production more sustainable.

How does your research align with One Health?

My research supports One Health by helping reduce greenhouse gases from dairy farming, benefiting the climate, animals, and people. I studied feed choices to avoid competition with human food and increase local feed production in Sweden. At the same time, we ensure that cows remain healthy and productive.

What are your plans after your PhD?

I’ve started a postdoc at Seydlitz laboratory, SLU, working with data from dairy farms on milk production, feeding and methane emissions. By improving the quality of this data, we aim to make nutrition more precise and reduce emissions. These data can also support breeding and future One Health projects aimed at selecting animals with lower methane emissions.
