Salary-setting at SLU

Page reviewed:  26/06/2026

How salaries are set

When a salary is determined, an overall assessment is based on factors such as:

  • the complexity of the role
  • the knowledge, skills and qualifications required
  • the level of responsibility, authority and independence
  • relevant experience and qualifications.

Salaries are set individually and based on objective criteria.

Applicants are informed of the salary or salary range for a position before the interview. This information may be provided in the job advertisement or or at another stage of the recruitment process.

Salary development

SLU normally carries out an annual pay review. During the pay review, salary development is based on performance in relation to the University's objectives, individual goals and SLU's salary criteria.

Your salary may also be reviewed, for example if you:

  • take on significantly different duties
  • are promoted
  • gain new relevant qualifications or complete a relevant degree
  • are affected by other special circumstances.

Special provisions for certain positions

Specific provisions regarding salary or salary development apply to certain positions and professional groups, including:

  • doctoral students
  • appointment as a docent
  • distinguished university teachers
  • specialist training for veterinary surgeons
  • promotion under SLU's appointments procedure.
