Engaging pre-engagement meeting ahead of SAHEL Science policy Lab
More than 30 participants from across the Sahel-region, Agrinatura, and FAO met online to lay the groundwork for the upcoming Science Policy Lab scheduled for 11-12 September in N’Djamena Chad.
The group brought together a diverse mix of researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and private sector and civil society representatives.
The Science Policy Lab is the first of two Labs contributing to the Agro-Silvo-Pastoralism Thematic Study that SASI-SPi is conducting on behalf of the European Commission.
Findings from SASi-SPi reports - including a literature review, a typology of agro-pastoral systems in the Sahel, and in-depth case analyses - will be presented and discussed with participants.
During the pre-engagement meeting, participants highlighted key issues such as the regional interconnections, security concerns, and the importance of food security for communities whose livelihoods depend on agro-silvo-pastoral systems.
The intended results validate research findings, explore future scenarios, and examine policy and investment options for building more resilient agro-silvo-pastoral food systems.
The Science Policy Lab will be held in N’Djamena on 11-12 September 2025.
