The SLU Lichen Indicator Map shows where ground lichens occur and how abundant the lichen stands are within the reindeer herding area. Lichens are the main food source for reindeer during the winter season, and the maps can be used to plan forestry measures with due regard for reindeer grazing. The map is also used as input data in various types of decision-making processes linked to industrial and infrastructure development and environmental impact assessments.

SLU SLU Lichen Indicator Map 2025 contains the following files:

  • SLU_lavindikatorkartan_2025_kontinuerligt.tif
  • SLU_lavindikatorkartan_2025_kategorisk.tif

The first shows modelled continuous cover levels and the second shows cover levels classified into four categories. The map is based on satellite imagery from 2025 and data from the National Forest Inventory’s sample plots.

Avalanche indicator maps for the 1980s and 2020 will soon be made available for download via SLU.
