Increased standing volume in Swedish forests

News published:  27/05/2026

The standing volume of wood in living trees in Sweden continues to grow. This is a result from the annual official statistics, Forest Data 2026, from the SLU Swedish National Forest Inventory.

Last year's statistics already showed how growth in the forest increased after having decreased since 2012. The trend of increased growth continues in this year's statistics. At the same time, the loss, i.e. trees that have been felled or died, is decreasing. The total timber stock in Sweden is over 3.6 billion cubic meters of forest.

"There is a continued build-up of the timber stock and the amount of carbon in the forest", says Per-Erik Wikberg, Per-Erik Wikberg, Head of Analysis at the Swedish National Forest Inventory.
