Antibiotic resistance genes detected on Swedish pig farms – despite low antibiotic use

Antibiotic use in Swedish pig production is generally very low. Yet researchers at SLU have found antibiotic resistance genes in pig housing – including genes conferring resistance to antibiotics that the pigs had not even received, according to a new study.
