News published:  06/10/2026

Twelve proposals have been selected to proceed to the next stage of the application process for WIFORCE Arenas. The applicants have been invited to submit full applications by 6 November. The final decision on the Arena projects will be made in week 49.

A total of 29 proposals were submitted in the first round. Of the 12 now moving forward, 5–7 are expected to receive funding.

WIFORCE Arenas aim to establish and strengthen long-term collaborative platforms where researchers from different disciplines and stakeholders jointly develop knowledge, infrastructure, methods and activities that contribute to sustainable forest management in the future.

In the next stage, the full applications will be assessed according to four overall criteria:

  • arena relevance and collaborative excellence
  • scientific quality and impact potential
  • long-term value
  • commitment and in-kind contributions
